Six Questions for Michael Mc Aloran, Bone Orchard Poetry

Bone Orchard Poetry is a blogzine of the Bleak, the Surreal, the Dark/Absurd and the Experimental. The editor accepts poetry and prose poetry/flash fiction.

(ceased publication)

SQF: What are the top three things you look for in a submission and why?

MM: Personally, I don't like the term 'Editor', I like it as little as the term 'Poet'. All that aside, I look firstly for a poetic interpretation of the subject matter, an absence of hackneyed imagery, and quality in delivery.

SQF: What common mistakes do you encounter that turn you off to a submission?

MM: Rhyming poetry, stating the bloody obvious, a bad cover letter/introduction.

SQF: Do you provide comments when you reject a submission?

MM: No. But I am polite.

SQF: Will you publish a submission an author posted on a personal blog?

MM: Yes, of course, that's irrelevant to me, the work is always fresh to somebody, given the amount of blogs out there...

SQF: What do you want authors to know about the stories you reject and how authors should respond? Along this same idea, do you mind if authors reply with polite questions about the comments they receive?

MM: Yes, they can reply, that's no problem, and if they don't mind my personal rant then of course they should feel free. However keep it brief, it's not the end of the universe to be rejected by any zine, you'll find a place for your work, there are enough of them out there.

SQF: What one question on this topic do you wish I'd asked that I didn't? And how would you answer it?

No response.

Thank you, Michael. We all appreciate you taking time from your busy schedule to participate in this project.
